Trained Dog Skill Levels & Differences
Excelon Protection Dog Level 3 (PPO3)

This dog is trained to the highest level obedience and protection for every day life as family pet. This includes socialization. His caliber and intensity is the highest in the presence of a threat, and naturally his obedience skill level is the highest too. He is skilled in fighting and protecting his handler, family or home.

This dog is skilled in obedience on leash, off leash or both, 
• Basic manners: sit for petting, down for petting and leave it
• Basic Socialization includes and is not limited to more than 5 environments
• Socialization extended: understands clear rules, boundaries and limits placed by handler
• Voice command trained, usually with hand signals too
• Distance and control trained
• Crate and house trained 
• Vehicle travel and training
• Turns on aggressive directed barking at threats
• Turns off
• When threats escalate the dog is prepared to win the fight
• Is taught to defend/bite upon command at your side in the presence of a threat
• Taught to guard you, stay with you, in the presence of a threat or upon command
• Is gun sure
• Is taught to defend vehicle
• Will secure an area of the home and defend against a threat

Excelon Protection Dog Level 1 (PPO1)

A deterrent dog. Trained in obedience, manners, socialization and protection basic 1. This dog shows off leash obedience and listens to his handlers voice commands at home. As deterrent dog he turns on barking aggressively and turns off upon his handlers command.

This dog is skilled in all target obedience exercises off leash as well as:
• Turns on aggressively with directed barking at threat upon command
• Turns off directed barking upon command
• This dog does not have developed fighting skills. He is a deterrent dog.
• Socialized Type A (see program for target exercises)
• Socialized Type B (see program for target exercise)
• Taught to travel in vehicle
• Crate and house trained

Excelon Protection Dog Level 2 (PPO2)

The PPO2 dog is trained in obedience, manners, socialization and protection basic 1 for every day life. This dog shows off leash obedience and listens to his handler’s voice commands in all situations. He is a high caliber family pet and intensity is higher than a 1 dog and has basic fighting skills to handle a threat.


This dog is skilled in obedience on leash, off leash or both, 
• Basic manners: sit for petting, down for petting and leave it
• Basic Socialization includes and is not limited to more than 5 environments
• Socialization extended: understands clear rules, boundaries and limits placed by handler
• Voice command trained, usually with hand signals too
• Distance and control trained
• Crate and house trained 
• Vehicle travel and training

• Turns off

​Custom Obedience and Protection Training 

In addition to the above training levels and target program exercises, individual dogs are trained in other obedience and protection exercises. They are in combination or single exercises. When a trained dog has custom exercises and training it is reflected in the price of the dog.

Custom training exercises I teach are, but not limited too:

Manners/Socialization

• Dog is trained to potty in a designated area outside away from where children play or family gathers.  
• Trained to pick up and play with his toys only.  
• Leave something specific alone
• Follow alongside a bike for exercise
• Boundaries

​Obedience

• Any obedience exercise not listed as part of my base program for obedience and protection at an advanced level for every day life.
• Retrieve objects for me when directed too

Protection

• Will defend you when wearing a muzzle
• Will guard/secure an object
• Taught to search your house for an intruder, upon locating he begins barking, if he finds no one he returns to you
• Distance, custom defense and recall exercises
• Dog will defend you on his own if you are unconscious or otherwise unable to provide commands

Trained in obedience, manners and socialization. This dog has finished the foundation training.  Now this dog shows off leash obedience and listens to his handlers voice commands. 

This dog is skilled on all the target obedience exercises off leash at home or in a controlled setting.  Not quite off leash trained in all situations this begins in level 2.

  • Stays at handler side upon command off leash

Exelon Family Pet Obedience 2 (EOB2)

The beginning of off leash obedience in any situation can be seen by the naked eye! 

The dog rarely needs to be on leash in every day life.  The dog is reliable in clinical obedience.  All the obedience and social training exercises are built to a solid level.  Control work is complete by the end of this level 2 and dog is ready to begin level 3 - all off leash and distance work.

​Excelon Family Pet Obedience 3 (EOB3)

Advanced trained dog skills for everyday life includes, command discrimination, response to commands off leash, control and distance obedience training. 

The advanced trained dog shows intelligent response to the handler’s voice commands regardless of situation.  

Level 3 advanced trained dogs have the ability to respond to their handler’s demands for duration of 15-45 minutes possibly more.  They do not need the control of the leash at all.

His skills include solid responses to single commands at a distance.  Under distraction.  In any situation the dog willingly responds to his handlers commands.

​Best of all you completely trust your dog with your family, friends and he is very much a member of your family.  Off leash dog training is a lifestyle.  You have this to show.

While the average service, therapy or ESA dog skills are all on leash, I expect mine to be responsive to obedience and control off leash in every day life.  

Service Dog Training Skill level 1

Includes one standard for all: therapy, service or emotion support dog.
​Service Dog Skill Level 1

Trained in obedience, manners and socialization. This dog has finished the foundation training. Now this dog shows off leash obedience and listens to his handlers voice commands. 

​This dog is skilled on all the target obedience exercises off leash at home as well as one public environment. Not quite off leash trained in all situations.   Task training is present.

This dog is skilled in 3 environments.  On all of the target obedience.  Is task trained and is proficient on assisting his disabled handler with personal mobility, hearing, vision or personal task of independence.

  Stays at handler side upon command off leash

  Recalls off leash and at a distance

Level 3 Skills For Select Service Dogs

Advanced Service dog is solid in more than 4 public access/lifestyle environments. The dogs skills include light protection as a deterrent dog in addition to the obedience, socialization and task training proficiency.

My training program model builds off leash obedience and control for every day life.  I expect my highest trained dogs to respond with obedience to my voice commands.  Immediately regardless of the situation.  I achieve these skills through target training exercises every day. Gaining a highly skilled trained dog is priceless and worth every minute I spend with my dog.

We all start with the 12 week foundation. For some this will be the skill level they want. For others only the highest level of trained skill is best suited for their lifestyle.
